Paul Yalowitz
Biography
I was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1958 and grew up on Long Island. In High School, instead of answering the questions on my Spanish tests I drew pictures, so I began taking art classes instead of Spanish classes. I went to Suffolk County Community College and continued to take art classes. After I graduated from S.C.C.C. I studied illustration at The School of Visual Arts in New York City. I graduated, in 1983, with honors and the Rhodes Family Award - oooooh ahhhhhhh. I worked as a freelance illustrator. I did a lot of editorial work - A LOT - and some of it was actually OK. About five years after graduating S.V.A. I started illustrating children's picture books, I have illustrated about twelve now including one I wrote.
All the images on this website were created with pencil and color pencil on bristol vellum paper.
In addition to New York, I have lived in Florida (where I taught at Ringling School of Art and Design) and now Colorado where I teach at The Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design.
I had a show in Tokyo, Japan
